Donations and Fundraising

The Whitehead Cup 2009........

At the recent ECGCF tournament we organised the sale of Chess Puzzle Sheets to the players and their siblings.   This gave the children something to do between rounds, some extra chess practise and raised a few extrra pounds for the ECGCF funds.

Also, thank you to Mr. Bennett-Anton, an Oxfordshire team parent, who made a very kind donation of cash to the ECGCF.

Thank you for your support.

New equipment.......

Many thanks to Neil Clifton for his kind gift of 6 new chess sets and boards for the ECGCF.

Fundraising news......

After a much-needed clearout from my daughters' bedrooms, we held a stall at a local bootsale.  We raised £60, which is being divided betweeen my 2 daughters - £30 to funding a 6th Form geography/community project expedition to Cost Rica in 2010 (for Lucy) and £30 for Helen, the chess player, to donate to the ECGCF.  Not a huge amount, but every little helps!

At the recent ECF All England Girls Southern event we raised a few more pounds for the ECGCF and the Costa Rica trip, with 'Name the Bear' and 'Guess the number of sweets in the jar'.  Both of these proved popular with the girls between rounds of chess.

........After more bootsales, I have been able to donate a total of £65 to the ECGCF.

Plus, a personal donation - I want to support the ECGCF and see it continue succesfully in the future.

If anyone would like to offer financial help and support for the ECGCF (which is a totally voluntary organisation) or has any ideas/suggestions for fundraising or sponsorship, please contact me, Sue Mazalon, via the CONTACT page.
Thank you.

Introduction to the ECGCF

The ECGCF organises chess competitions for teams of girls representing the
Real Counties of England
Our aim is to promote chess for girls throughout the English Counties.

Girls find much enjoyment and benefit from playing chess. It helps to develop
concentration skills, self-discipline, self-esteem, team spirit, sportsmanship, etiquette,
logical thinking and planning.

Sadly, many girls give up playing chess when they start senior school. This may be due to lack of senior school chess clubs, increased volume of school work or they find that only boys are taken seriously as chess players!

The ECGCF organises various tournaments throughout the year, including
The Whitehead Cup and The Grand Cup.

Chess is a great game and we want to keep girls playing!

ECGCF Chairman
